For those of you who studied graphic design or marketing, I don’t have to try hard to make you a believer in company branding. I know you are already a die-hard fan of exceptional company presentation from the logo and business cards, to stationary, signs and product labels.
If you’re a food blogger, you may reach a point in your business when you start selling your own products. Think e-book, or print book. Think special spices or other kitchen essentials. The point I’m making is that it’s important for your business to have a professional logo from the beginning. Think big. Avoid re-work. You will make mistakes. We all do. So at least try hard to avoid making every mistake in the book by learning from other people’s experiences.
“But but I don’t want to pay for it”
Well, sorry. You will have to pay for it if you are serious about your business. The only exceptions are if you are a graphic designer yourself or know someone really good at it who’s willing to do it for free.
Don’t reinvent the wheel
Don’t waste your time.
Designing your own logo and having to re-design another one later and go through a re-branding effort is a prime example of what you should not do.
This is particularly important, because, if you are just starting out, you cannot possibly do everything yourself. Even if you had the time, you cannot possibly be an expert at everything. Maybe you are a graphic designer and can design a stellar logo on your own, in which case this article isn’t for you. But for everybody else, remember first and foremost that your primary focus should remain content creation and running your business. Turning yourself into a graphic designer, web developer, accountant and tax advisor isn’t going to do you or your business any good. Focus on creating content for your business and extending your reach, and hire professionals to take care of the rest.

Invest in a logo design now and save yourself the headache of having to re-brand your business in the future. Avoid having to worry about old images and infographics you created with the old logo. The web is, well, a web of websites of all sorts including blogs and a host of social media platforms.
